About Katherine D. Currin
Katherine, known affectionately as "Kat," graduated with a B.A. in religious studies with the highest honors from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill back in 2007. Her professional journey commenced as a Public Defender, dedicating eight impactful years to serving the communities of Chesapeake and Norfolk. She's licensed in both Virginia and North Carolina, primarily practicing law throughout Hampton Roads, focusing on criminal defense and family law.
Beyond her legal endeavors, Kat actively engages in the vibrant life of Saint Michael Lutheran Church in Virginia Beach, finding joy in contributing her voice to the church's music. As a dedicated mother to two young children, she finds fulfillment in volunteering, particularly in activities geared towards supporting kids across Hampton Roads. Notably, she played a pivotal role in organizing fundraisers for organizations like The Dwelling Place and CHKD.
Kat's commitment and achievements have garnered recognition. In 2016, she was honored in the Top 40 Under 40 by Inside Business Magazine for Hampton Roads. More recently, in the years 2020-2021, the Norfolk Public Library and African American Community Creative Series celebrated her as an AACCS Humanitarian Servant Leadership Honoree. A passionate supporter of UNC Tarheel sports, Kat's diverse interests and commitments extend beyond her legal and community involvements, making her an integral part of the vibrant tapestry of Hampton Roads.
