About Marcus J. Rael
Marcus J. Rael, Jr., founding partner of his firm, represents a broad range of clients, including government entities, private businesses, and individuals, in complex legal matters. His extensive background includes areas such as government and administrative law, real estate, construction, environmental disputes, water law, and land use issues. Marcus has developed significant expertise in handling intricate legal challenges across these fields.
Marcus has worked on numerous water rights cases for both government and private clients and has represented them before the U.S. Supreme Court, the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals, and various state courts and administrative bodies. He has experience in interstate water disputes and has advocated for clients in high-profile environmental remediation efforts, including helping secure substantial funds for clean-up projects. His work with state and federal regulatory agencies, such as the EPA and Army Corps of Engineers, underscores his wide-reaching experience.
In addition, Marcus has defended clients in a variety of tort cases, including those involving negligence, wrongful death, and constitutional claims. He has represented employers in employment-related litigation in both state and federal courts, as well as before regulatory bodies such as the EEOC and New Mexico Human Rights Division. Marcus also has a background in gaming law, having represented racetracks and casinos and served as Chairman of the New Mexico Lottery Board twice.
As Managing Partner for over 15 years, Marcus also leads the firm’s Environmental Litigation and Governmental Counsel divisions. He represents the State of New Mexico in U.S. Supreme Court cases related to environmental matters and has been involved in significant cases against corporations like Volkswagen and in pharmaceutical litigation. His advocacy has extended to legislative and administrative proceedings, securing major contracts for governmental entities in New Mexico.
