About Whitney Young
Whitney Young, a proud North Carolina native, has called many of the state’s major cities home, including Raleigh, Charlotte, and Asheville. Her journey brought her to Elizabeth City in 2009, where she launched her teaching career at River Road Middle School. A graduate of Appalachian State University, she was a NC Teaching Fellow and recognized as an Honors Student Teacher. Her dedication to supporting at-risk youth inspired her move to the Albemarle area.
While teaching, Whitney met her husband, Steven Young, an Elizabeth City native and active-duty member of the U.S. Army. Following their marriage, she relocated to Clarksville, Tennessee, where she taught high school for a year before deciding to pursue a career in law.
Whitney attended Regent University School of Law in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where she earned an academic achievement award in family law for earning the top grade in her class. She gained practical experience in family law and civil litigation during internships with local firms, including Gunther Law Group in Hertford and The Twiford Law Firm in Elizabeth City. After passing the bar exam, she joined Twiford as an associate attorney, a role she held for nearly five years before opening her own firm.
In 2020, Whitney was honored to participate in the NCBA Leadership Academy, which focuses on fostering leadership within the legal field and local communities. Recognizing the benefits of resolving disputes outside the courtroom, she joined the NC Civil Collaborative Law Association in 2022, offering families a streamlined and less adversarial approach to resolving conflicts. In 2023, she expanded her skills further, becoming a certified family financial mediator through the NC Dispute Resolution Commission.
