About Howard M. Cohen

Mr. Cohen's educational journey began with a full merit scholarship after high school, which allowed him to pursue his studies at Wayne State University in Detroit. In 1984, he proudly earned his B.S. degree in Criminal Justice with distinction. Continuing his academic pursuits, Howard went on to attend Wayne State University Law School, where he became a member of the Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity. His dedication paid off in 1987 when he successfully completed his legal education, receiving a Juris Doctorate degree from Wayne State.

Post-law school, Howard embarked on a 22-year career practicing law with a well-known national firm based in Birmingham, MI. He practices in various areas, including Admiralty/Jones Act litigation, Longshore and Defense Base Act litigation, Railroad/FELA litigation, automobile accident litigation, and Workers Compensation. In 2010, Howard made a significant move to one of Michigan's most highly regarded local firms, where he continued to make a difference as a litigation attorney. His work primarily revolved around personal injury cases, encompassing automobile accidents, premises liability, and general negligence cases.

Howard boasts an impressive track record of over 30 years, dedicated to helping accident victims recover compensation in the aftermath of serious injuries. His experience has made him acutely aware of the complexities involved in injury cases, where lives can be dramatically altered due to the carelessness or negligence of others. In 2022, Howard joined the prestigious team at Elia & Ponto. Beyond his professional life, Howard finds joy in his personal life, as a married individual with two children. Outside of work, he indulges in various activities, including watching and participating in sports of all kinds, savoring dinners out, enjoying movies, and creating cherished memories on family vacations.
